Introduction

015Cr24Ni22Mo8Mn3CuN, 00Cr24Ni22Mo7Mn3CuN, 654 SMO stainless steel is a 7Mo type super austenitic stainless steel developed on the basis of (00Cr20Ni18Mo6CuN) 254SMO stainless steel with increased chromium, nickel and molybdenum content. The PRE value (pitting corrosion resistance equivalent value) of 654SMO stainless steel is as high as 55. The nitrogen content in the steel can reach about 0.5%, which is almost the highest solid solution nitrogen content of high chromium (about 24%) and low manganese (about 3%) stainless steel under normal pressure. 654SMO stainless steel has excellent resistance to various types of corrosion.

It can replace iron-nickel-based and even nickel-based corrosion-resistant alloys in many media, thus filling the gap between stainless steel and high nickel corrosion-resistant alloys in the absence of high pitting corrosion resistance and high crevice corrosion resistance stainless steel.

654SMO / S32654 stainless steel has excellent plasticity and toughness in solid solution state and higher strength than ordinary austenitic and 6% Mo austenitic stainless steel. Its mechanical properties are even comparable to some nickel-based corrosion-resistant alloys.
Corrosion resistance

 General corrosion  


    The corrosion resistance of 654SMO stainless steel is not only better than 304 , 316 , and 904L , but also better than 254SMO in HCl and HF acid.


Pitting and crevice corrosion


  The pitting and crevice corrosion resistance of 654SMO stainless steel is not only better than that of 6% Mo type super austenitic stainless steel and (022Cr25Ni7Mo4N) 2507 super duplex stainless steel, but also better than the tested corrosion-resistant alloys such as Inconel 625 and Hastelloy C-276 .


Stress corrosion


   The stress corrosion test was carried out by droplet evaporation method. From the results obtained, it can be seen that under the conditions of the test, when the applied stress reaches σ0.2, 654 SMO stainless steel is likely to produce stress corrosion cracking. Other grades report that the stress corrosion resistance of 254 SMO stainless steel and 2507 super duplex stainless steel is lower than that of S32654 stainless steel, and some grades (316 2205 ) are still far lower than 00Cr24Ni22Mo7Mn3CuN.


 Corrosion resistance in actual media


  In the pulp bleaching process of paper mills, there is a very harsh corrosive environment using the "C" section of chlorine and the "D" section of carbon dioxide and the combination of the two as bleaching chemicals. The results obtained from the corrosion test simulating the medium conditions of the "C" section show that the corrosion resistance of 654 SMO stainless steel is significantly better than that of 254 SMO and nickel-based corrosion-resistant alloys Inconel 625 and Hastelloy C-276.


 Hot and cold processing performance


   654SMO stainless steel is one of the grades with the highest alloying element content among super austenitic stainless steels. Due to the high content of chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen in the steel, the thermoplasticity of this steel is low, and the high temperature strength is high, so the hot working performance is relatively poor, and hot cracks, especially edge cracks, are prone to occur. The cold working and cold forming of this steel are better than this steel. It is easy to harden by cold working, so the primary cold deformation should not be too large, preferably ≤15%.


 Welding performance


   S32654 super stainless steel has good welding performance and can be welded using the welding methods used for austenitic stainless steel. When manual arc welding, it is recommended to use P16 welding rod (P16 contains 24% chromium, 60% nickel, and 15% molybdenum).


Heat treatment process


   The suitable heat treatment process for 015Cr24Ni22Mo8Mn3CuN, 00Cr24Ni22Mo7Mn3CuN and 654 SMO stainless steel is heating and insulation at ≥1150ºC followed by rapid cooling.
