316LVM is a Stainless Steel grade that is vacuum arc remelted in order to maximize corrosion resistance and provide a ferrite free micro structure. This version of 316 Stainless Steel contains higher nickel, lower carbon, lower molybdenum and lower chromium content than standard 316L. It is often dual certified and referred to as 316LS Stainless Steel. 316LVM also has excellent resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion and physiological environments. All of these characteristics make it a great candidate for both medical application and high precision electronics.
Alloy 316LVM is a high-performance stainless steel alloy that is specifically designed for medical and surgical applications. It is an austenitic stainless steel, which means it has a face-centered cubic crystal structure and excellent mechanical properties. The "L" in 316LVM stands for low carbon, indicating that the alloy has a lower carbon content compared to standard 316 stainless steel.
One of the key features of alloy 316LVM is its exceptional corrosion resistance. It exhibits excellent resistance to a range of corrosive environments, including harsh chemicals, acids, alkalis, and chloride solutions. This makes it highly suitable for use in medical implants, devices, and bone screws that encounter bodily fluids or harsh sterilization processes.
Alloy 316LVM also offers excellent mechanical properties, including high tensile strength, good ductility, and high elongation. It has a low magnetic permeability, which is beneficial for certain medical applications where magnetic interference needs to be minimized.
