Lork Group Mar-M-918 Introduction

Mar-M-918, also known as B50A824, AMS 5814, and PMET918, is a cobalt-based alloy with a higher melting point than arsenic- or iron-based alloys. The primary alloying elements of this alloy are chromium and nickel. MARM-M-918 is produced through vacuum induction melting and remelting techniques, with the final wire rod produced through a specialized, lubricant-free, die-forming process.

Mar-M-918 can be cold-formed using heavy lubricants. It is insensitive to heat treatment and can be cold-worked using standard tooling. Soft tooling material is used to produce parts with a good surface finish and minimize scratching. Superalloy MARM 918 is annealed at 119°C (2175°F) for four hours and then cooled.

Mar-M-918 is primarily used in gas turbine hot section components, turbine blades, disks and rings, landing gear, fasteners and springs, exhaust systems, engine casings, and combustion chambers. Machining MAR-M918 is not difficult if the appropriate techniques are used, which are similar to those used to machine austenitic stainless steels. MAR-M918 can be welded using submerged arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, shielded metal arc welding, and gas metal arc welding.
