Introduction

Ti 15Mo is a titanium alloy without Vanadium capable of a multiple properties according to the heat treatment which has been done: low elasticity modulus, high mechanical properties, excellent fatigue resistance, good ductility and weldability, exceptional corrosion resistance and biocompatibility. This metal is mainly used in orthopaedics, trauma, spinal, orthodontics and dental markets.

Material properties

1,Low elastic modulus
The elastic modulus (about 75-85 GPa) is close to that of human bones (10-30 GPa), which significantly reduces the stress shielding effect and reduces the risk of bone resorption after implantation45.

2,Excellent mechanical properties
Room temperature impact toughness reaches 250 J/cm², which is 4 times that of Ti-15Mo-1Fe alloy, attributed to the dynamic grain refinement effect of {332}113 twinning3;
Yield strength ≥825 MPa, tensile strength ≥900 MPa, meeting the needs of high-strength implants48.

3,Corrosion resistance and biocompatibility
The corrosion resistance in simulated body fluid (SBF) is lower than that of Ti-13Nb-13Zr, but better than that of traditional Ti-6Al-4V25;
It does not contain toxic elements such as Al and V, and meets the ASTM F2066 standard

Heat treatment optimization
Through solid solution aging treatment (temperature control below the phase transition point + water cooling/air cooling), the α+β phase structure is regulated to meet the mechanical requirements of the AMS F2066 standard




Applications

Orthopedic implants
Used in artificial hip joints, intervertebral fusion devices and bone screws, its flexibility can simulate the mechanical environment of bones.

Surface modification improves wear resistance
Through high-temperature solid carburization (such as graphene, carbon nanotubes) to form a TiC layer, the hardness is increased to 1246 HV (4 times the original), the wear rate is reduced by 82%, and the service life is significantly extended5.

Dental and trauma repair
Applicable to root implants and bone plate fixation systems, combined with low modulus properties to reduce the risk of secondary surgery
